WAX’s Pivotal 2022 Year in Review + What’s Coming in 2023

There’s no denying that 2022 was an unforgettable year for both the WAX Blockchain and our outstanding community.

Now, let’s take a journey down memory lane as we reflect on all of the amazing accomplishments we’ve witnessed over the past 12 months.

Outstanding Projects on WAX

WAX wouldn’t be the same without driven and creative developers making their mark on the blockchain. Here are some of our very favorites from the past 365 days:

Alien Worlds — Discover NFTs, explore new worlds, stake Trillium and more in this exciting P2E adventure here.

FGL — Experience a new kind of token utility between all FGL games, such as Mecha World, Cosmic Clash and Nifty Fish. There’s no shortage of fun to be had, and we look forward to seeing these games in action.

Taco — This WAX Blockchain utility tool allows users to make transactions, swap tokens, manage their NFTs and interact with the most popular dApps.

Acryptia — Brought to you by Taco, work your way through a dungeon in a new NFT card/adventure game. Make your way through the levels, climb the tower and earn real rewards.

Shnazzy E-Girls — E-Girls is a 10K PFP project aiming to onboard gaming and streaming communities on WAX.

Noteworthy NFT Collections

In true WAX fashion, we have to celebrate the NFT collections that stood out to us over the past year.

“I Own AMC” — Self-proclaimed stakeholders and AMC Investor Connect members had the opportunity in January to have the special “I Own AMC” NFT air dropped to their wallets. This gorgeous and luxurious NFT will never be minted again, making it special to all who own it.

WAX 10 Million Wallets NFT Drop — In January, WAX celebrated an outstanding achievement of seeing over 10 million wallets created on the blockchain. To say “thank you” to community members that participated, we dropped a mind-blowing 10 million NFTs over the course of 10 segments. And, the best part — we did it all while remaining totally carbon neutral. *Mic drop*

Street Fighter Classic — This limited series hit the WAX Blockchain on January 20 with 121 unique cards and eight (8) stunning rarities. Collecting all cards in one of any rarity gave you the chance at additional bonus packs for even more fun.

WAX vBots — February introduced the WAX fam to vBots — 10,000 unique 1-of-1 NFTs to be given away for free via events, giveaways, collaborations, through gameplay and more. Not to mention, they’re going multi-chain in the near future, so you’ll have the option to migrate to other platforms. The community has gone wild for these adorable little guys, and it’s easy to see why!

Sci-Fi Anthology — “Thought Machine” by Edward Morgan Forster made its way to WAX on February 23 as a 1-of-1 auction. This piece of art history utilizes vIRL technology and can be redeemed for a real, physical museum grade 19x24 copy so you can show it off in your wallet or on your walls.

Sony Electronics — To celebrate the launch of Sony’s LinkBuds on March 22, Sony and artist J.Demsky teamed up with WAX to give away 260 NFT packs in an instant win contest. Each pack contains three (3) exciting rarities, and each can be redeemed for real rewards. Lucky Rare and Holographic winners even get a free pair of LinkBuds.

Mattel Hot Wheels Garage Series 2 — We’ve been around the track a few times, and on March 31, Hot Wheels revved its engine once more in the Hot Wheels Garage Series 2 collection. Get all 43 cards from four (4) mini collections and five (5) rarities, plus the chance to win and redeem physical die-cast models for your shelf at home.

WAX Carbon Offset NFTs — In honor of Earth Week on April 21, WAX set up a 15% discount on all Carbon Offset NFTs — but, with a twist. Collectors had the chance to craft with the original NFTs to create new and exciting collectibles with stunning art by renowned Swiss artist and illustrator Krel.

Remember, every dollar value on your NFTs represents trees to be planted by the National Forest Foundation to help keep our planet happy and healthy!

Mattel Hot Wheels Garage Series 3 — July 7 brought the show stopping Hot Wheels Garage Series 3 collection to WAX to burn some rubber. Packs contain seven (7) NFTs across four (4) mini collections and five (5) rarities.

Collectors also have the chance at receiving extremely rare and redeemable vIRL NFTs to win physical die-casts to treasure. These can’t be purchased or found anywhere else in the world!

Raising the Bar for Blockchain Games

Tyranno Studios is turning blockchain gaming on its head, and 2022 is proof of how far we’ve come.

Blockchain Brawlers

The hit game Blockchain Brawlers has endured a metamorphosis over the course of the past year — starting from humble beginnings as a play-to-earn PvE mining game, and now taking over the blockchain as the best play-and-own Web3 PvP card game designed by none other than the illustrious Richard Garfield, creator of Magic: The Gathering.

Music Mogul

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to build and run your own music empire, Music Mogul is the game for you.

Tyranno Studios has been hard at work developing a musical experience where you can build out a Roster of burgeoning Artists, send them on Tour and set them up in Recording Rooms to climb the charts and make history.

Increased Connectivity and Utility

Here at WAX, we are constantly aiming to improve your user experience by offering updated utility and reach in the blockchain world.

These updates have taken huge strides towards creating a better blockchain. Check it out:

WAX Account Creation Flow Update — As of 09/28, users can fund Cloud Wallet accounts directly with Moonpay via a separate credit card payment flow.

WAX x Binance Smart Chain Bridged — March 18 brought us one step closer towards true ownership of your NFTs by allowing you to transfer any Blockchain Brawlers NFTs between WAX and BSC. This is an essential step toward making the ecosystem more accessible and streamlining compatibility with marketplaces and play-and-own dApps.

WAXP ERC-20 Launch — In September, the WAXP ERC-20 made its first appearance with support from several exchanges and blockchains, including Binance, Binance US, OKX, Kucoin, Gate and Huobi, further pushing the bounds of our reach and ease of accessibility for users far and wide.

ETH x WAX Bridge — Since the ETH x WAX bridge was forged on March 28, Blockchain Brawlers players can easily transfer and exchange their ERC-20 BRWL tokens seamlessly between each other.

And, on June 16, this technology expanded its reach to all WAXP tokens, further increasing accessibility and freedom for your assets.

WAX Resource Model Infrastructure Updates — Also in June, WAX rolled out a new update with the Cloud Wallet Resource Boost Model, alleviating the need to purchase and stake resources before using dApps.

Check to ensure you have ample resources staked. If you use up all staked resources, you’ll get a Boost. If you’ve already used your free boost, you’ll have to pay 0.1 WAXP to complete your transaction. It’s easy as pie!

WAX DeFi Site Live — In order to bring our unique DeFi experience to the entire web3 ecosystem, June 29 brought an improved design of the DeFi site and moved it from the Cloud Wallet to its own domain: www.waxdefi.io

Whether you’re a DeFi veteran or just getting started, now anyone can easily earn rewards in the WAX DeFi ecosystem.

WAXBlock Explorer — September brought another handy tool for users to take advantage of. The WAXBlock Explorer simplifies the blockchain to a glance, giving you the information you need quickly and effortlessly.

WAX.io Launch — On November 14, we launched the much anticipated WAX.io site in all of its glory. This updated webpage not only looks gorgeous, but is easy to navigate. Browse NFT collections, games, stats and more to satiate your appetite for all things WAX.

EOS Network Foundation Teamwork — Teamwork makes the dream work, at least it does when speaking of the EOS Network Foundation. This past year, WAX joined alongside the EOS Network Foundation to utilize and improve some of the best Web3 blockchain technology out there, aka Antelope.

The community-led release of this tech is essential for us to see the WAX ecosystem flourish in new ways, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us. We’re talking about pushing the boundaries of scalability, number of supported wallets, improving transactions and more.

What Does the Future Hold?

There’s no doubt that 2022 was an incredible and jam-packed year, but there’s so much more coming. Better buckle in, WAX fam — 2023 is going to be a wild ride!

So what can we expect to see?

Well, without too many spoilers, you can count on our continual work in fine-tuning your favorite blockchain with steady improvements to user experience on both the front and back end.
