WAX Cloud Wallet Gets a Major Upgrade: Meet the Vault

Passkeys are one of the best things to happen to wallet security in recent years. No passwords to forget, no seed phrases to mistype — just a tap or a biometric prompt and you’re in. But anyone who has signed a dozen transactions in a row knows the friction adds up. The new WAX Cloud Wallet update changes that.
This release introduces the Vault (Beta) — a persistent signing session that keeps your wallet ready for action without asking you to confirm your passkey every single time. Alongside that, there’s a meaningful improvement in account recovery. Together, these two changes make WAX Cloud Wallet faster to use and more resilient to own.

The Vault: One Unlock, Many Transactions
The core idea behind the Vault is simple. When you connect to a dApp for the first time, WAX Cloud Wallet opens a dedicated Vault window. While that window stays open and unlocked, every subsequent signing request flows through it automatically — no passkey confirmation required each time.
For collectors clicking through a drop, traders executing multiple swaps, or developers testing smart contract interactions, this is a meaningful quality-of-life improvement. The passkey still protects your account; the Vault just removes the need to prove that protection over and over within a single session.
If you prefer the original behavior — passkey confirmation on every transaction — you can disable the Vault in your settings. The option is there, the choice is yours.
One thing worth knowing upfront: this is a beta release. The existing WAX Cloud Wallet is staying live, and there is no obligation to switch over right now. Users on the old wallet can migrate from within it when they feel ready, or stay put until the new version becomes the default. Both are completely valid paths.
Recover Your Account, Add New Devices, Stay in Control
The second update addresses a concern that any serious Web3 user faces: what happens if you lose access to your passkey device? Previously, that was a painful situation. Now it isn’t.
WAX Cloud Wallet now lets you import your mnemonic phrase to create a new passkey — either to recover access after losing a device, or simply to add a second device to your account. The mnemonic phrase is a 12-word recovery key generated when you create your wallet, familiar to anyone who has set up a hardware wallet like a Ledger. Write it down, store it securely, and it becomes your insurance policy for everything else.
This is blockchain self-custody done right. The keys belong to you, the recovery belongs to you, and WAX gives you the tools to act on both.
How to Create a New WAX Cloud Wallet Account
Setting up a new account takes just a few minutes. Here’s the full process:
- Head to mycloudwallet.com and choose to sign up.
- Select Create a new account.
- You’ll be shown your Mnemonic Phrase — 12 words that serve as your master recovery key. Write these down in order and store them somewhere safe and offline. This step is critical.
- To confirm you’ve saved your phrase, you’ll be asked to enter 3 of the 12 words. This is a quick verification — make sure you have your phrase written down before continuing.
- Choose your blockchain account name. It must be exactly 12 lowercase characters using letters a–z and numbers 1–5. Get creative — this is your on-chain identity.
- Create your Passkey. WAX Cloud Wallet supports iCloud Keychain and Google Password Manager. Click Create passkey on this device to continue. You’re all set.
Note: If you have another password manager like Dashlane active, disable it temporarily to avoid conflicts during setup.
