How to Migrate to the New WAX Cloud Wallet: Complete Step-by-Step Guide
The new WAX Cloud Wallet is here — and moving over is easier than you think. This guide walks you through every screen, every click, and every decision along the way.
Before You Start
Head to mycloudwallet.com — you’ll land on the new WAX Cloud Wallet sign-in page. At the bottom of the sign-in options, click Migrate your account from legacy wallet.
You’ll be taken to your old wallet to sign in. Once authenticated, you’ll see the Choose how you want to continue screen, which presents two paths:
Recommended — Use the New Cloud Wallet. The guided migration path. Fully non-custodial, passkey-protected, with mnemonic seedphrase recovery built in. Click MIGRATE ACCOUNT TO NEW WALLET to proceed. This is the path covered in this guide.
Advanced — Take full control of your account. For users who want full ownership of their account keys. This offers two options:
- Soft Claim — get access without fully taking over key ownership yet.
- Hard Claim — full ownership and control of your account keys. Recommended if you use multiple wallet platforms.
Important: If you lose your key under the Advanced path, you may permanently lose access to your account.
For most users, MIGRATE ACCOUNT TO NEW WALLET is the right choice. Click it to continue.
Note: If you see an error at this stage, your account may have already been migrated, or the email linked to your account may already exist in the new wallet. Try signing in to the new wallet directly at mycloudwallet.com.
Step 1: Set Up Your Passkey
The first thing you’ll do in the new wallet is create a passkey — this replaces your password and protects your account with device-based biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, etc.).
You’ll see the Set up your passkey screen.

- Why do we use passkeys? Your private key is locked with your passkey, so even a compromised device can’t expose it.
- How to use passkeys? One tap or biometric prompt and you’re in.
- Managing devices — passkeys sync across your devices through supported password managers.
Use the Previous / Next buttons to browse, then close when you’re ready.
Choose how to create your passkey:
Option A — Create a passkey on this device
Click the blue Create passkey on this device button. Your browser will prompt you to save the passkey using one of two recommended options:
- Google Password Manager — recommended for Windows or Android. You’ll see a prompt asking you to verify with Touch ID or your PIN.
- iCloud Keychain — recommended for macOS or iOS. You’ll see a prompt asking you to save the passkey via Touch ID.
Follow your device’s on-screen prompt to complete passkey creation.
Option B — Use phone with QR code
Click Use phone with QR code. A QR code will appear on the screen.
Open your phone camera and scan the code. Your phone will guide you through saving the passkey. This is useful if you want your passkey stored on your phone rather than your current device.
Note: Passkey setup varies by device, browser, and operating system. If you run into issues, make sure no other password managers (like Dashlane) are active during setup, as they can interfere with Google Password Manager or iCloud Keychain.
Step 2: Migrate Your Account
Once your passkey is set up, you’ll reach the Migrate Your Account screen.
Here you choose your migration path based on your situation:
Path A: I Haven’t Claimed My Account Yet
This applies to most users who set up their original WAX Cloud Wallet without ever exporting a private key. Click Claim & Migrate.
Sub-step 1 — Back Up Your Mnemonic Phrase
You’ll be shown your 12-word mnemonic phrase — your master recovery key. This is the most important step in the entire process. If you ever lose access to your passkey or device, these 12 words are what you’ll use to get back in.
On this screen, you can:
- Click Hide seed phrase / Show seed phrase to toggle visibility.
- Click Copy to clipboard to copy all 12 words.
- Click Download as .txt to save them as a file.
Write them down by hand and store them somewhere safe and offline. Do not save them in a notes app, screenshot them, or store them in cloud storage.
When you’ve saved your phrase securely, click Next.
Sub-step 2 — Confirm Your Mnemonic Phrase
To verify you’ve actually saved the phrase, you’ll be asked to enter 3 of the 12 words. The specific words are chosen randomly each time — the blank fields will be highlighted.
- Type each word carefully into the correct numbered slot.
- The Confirm button stays greyed out until all three fields are filled correctly.
- If any entry is wrong or blank, you won’t be able to proceed.
Once all three words are correct, the Confirm button turns blue. Click it to continue.
Sub-step 3 — Account Claiming: Generating Keys
Your Owner Key and Active Key have now been generated.
Click Continue to Sign
Sub-step 4 — Approve the Login Request
A Cloud Wallet pop-up will appear, showing a Login Request. It’s asking permission to connect the new wallet to your WAX account.
Review the details and click APPROVE.
Sub-step 5 — Approve the Transaction Request
A second pop-up will appear showing a Transaction Request. This is the on-chain transaction that completes your account migration. You may see one or two transaction requests depending on your account type — approve each one.
Review the details and click APPROVE.
Sub-step 6 — OTP Verification
Next, you’ll verify your identity via a one-time code sent to your email.
- If 2FA is disabled, you’ll only see an Email OTP field. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email.
- If 2FA is enabled, you’ll see both a 2-Factor Authentication field and an Email OTP field. Enter both codes.
Didn’t receive the email code? Click Resend to request a new one.
Once all codes are entered correctly, click Sign to Continue.
Sub-step 7 — Migration In Progress
You’ll see the Migrating Your Wallets screen with a loading spinner and three progress dots at the top.
Wait for the process to finish. It typically takes just a few moments. Once migration is complete, you’ll be automatically redirected to your new dashboard. Your tokens, account name, and balances will all be there waiting for you.
Done! Welcome to the New WAX Cloud Wallet.
Path B: I Already Have My Private Key
This applies to users who have previously exported their private key from the old wallet.
On the Migrate Your Account screen, click Import account with private key.
Sub-step 1 — Enter Your Private Key
You’ll see the Import private key screen.
- Paste or type your private key into the field.
- Click Show key / Hide key to toggle visibility.
- When the key is valid, the Confirm button turns blue.
Click Confirm.
If the key is invalid, you’ll see a red error message: “The private key is invalid.” Double-check what you’ve pasted and try again.
Sub-step 2 — Select Accounts
The system will load all accounts linked to that private key. You’ll see each account listed with its role (active or owner).
- Use the checkboxes to select the accounts you want to import.
- Click Select All to select everything at once.
- The Next button shows how many accounts are selected, e.g., Next.
Select your accounts and click Next.
Sub-step 3 — Confirm Import
A Confirm import screen shows the final list of accounts you’re about to migrate. Review it and click Import account.
The system begins the migration. On success, you’ll be redirected to your new WAX Cloud Wallet dashboard.
Something Went Wrong?
If the migration didn’t complete for any reason, don’t worry — you can try again.
- Log back in to the old wallet.
- You’ll see the EXPLORE NOW banner again.
- Click it to resume the migration flow. Your passkey and public key will update automatically.
Already Migrated? Here’s What You’ll See
If you sign in to the old wallet with an account that has already been successfully migrated, you’ll see this screen:
Click GO TO NEW CLOUD WALLET to head straight to your new dashboard, or click LOGOUT to sign out and use a different account.
